Dermal Fillers are injectable skin fillers used to smooth wrinkles, scars, give volume to the area under the eyes, enhance lip definition and restore volume to areas that have lost it through the aging process. The results can be seen immediately.

Restylane® is known as a dermal filler. It is a FDA approved gel that is injected into the skin adding volume to the lips and filling wrinkles or folds, like your “smile lines” or nasolabial folds that occur in the skin with aging. Another area that it can be used is the cheeks and under and around the eyes where volume is lost and a hallow appearance occurs.
Restylane® is made of a non-animal based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used along with collagen to provide volume and fullness to the skin.
Restylane® usually lasts around 6 months but depending on the area treated it can last even longer.
The most common side effects are mild swelling and redness. If injected under the eyes or the lips we often see bruising and swelling due to the increased blood vessels in those areas.

Perlane® is also known as a dermal filler. It is a thicker variant of Restylane® and can be used for deeper folds and larger areas of volume loss. It too is a non-animal based hyaluronic acid. It lasts approximately 9 months.

Juvéderm® is a dermal filler. It is a FDA approved gel which softens deep folds and reduces wrinkles. The substance is chemically closely related to the facial filler Restylane®.
Juvéderm is made of a non-animal based hyaluronic acid. It too is used to provide fullness to areas that have lost volume, scars and lip enlargement.
Juvéderm® like Restylane® lasts around 6 months but again depending on the area treated, if there is less facial movement the product can last longer.
Both products are hyaluronic acids. However the exact formulation of the gels differ. Restylane® has a somewhat thicker consistency than Juvéderm® although they can be used in areas interchangeably.
